Personality

What is your character most afraid of? How are they defined by this fear? (100-300 words)

Loki's greatest fear, in this iteration at least, is that he's destined to do nothing but serve as a villain. The first thing that made him snap was discovering that he had been born a member of the race that served as a boogeyman his entire life. In that moment, he lost all hope of being deserving and worthy-- not realizing that it was his reaction that led him down a darker path. But in the TVA he learns that, according to the Sacred Timeline, he had no choice. He was cast as the villain and was incapable of being anything else. However, once he's been taken off the Timeline, he gets an opportunity to truly subvert that narrative and fight back against his fear directly.

What is your character's greatest desire? How are they defined by this desire? (100-300 words)

Loki says it himself in the first film-- he only ever wanted to be Thor's equal. Greater than that, he's only ever wanted to belong in the way he saw Thor belonging. Growing up, he was othered long before he discovered his parentage. He was the second, less favored son, and no amount of being told he was "raised to be a king" just as Thor was would change the reality that he was treated differently.

It didn't help that he was treated differently largely due to playing to his strengths. Where Thor was lauded for his strength and bravery, Loki's talent for magic and mischief was scorned-- no matter how useful it was to others. The things he valued were taken advantage of more than they were ever accepted, and when he came to believe this would always be the case, he leaned into the trickster persona and pretended it was what he had wanted all along.

Interestingly, once he is taken out of his original story entirely and is able to use his talents alongside people who appreciate them, it doesn't take long for him to drop the act. Having this desire met even the tiniest bit shifts him out of the defensive stance he's taken his entire life.

How will not having memories change your character? What core personality traits, if any, will change? How? (200-300 words)

With no rivalry and inferiority complex hanging over him, Loki will be significantly less competitive and aloof. Usually, his instinct when interacting with others is to see if he can best them and then do so (at whatever cost), or to put on a good performance of being out of their league anyway, actually. Anything to shape his role in the interaction before someone else gets the chance to.

This isn't to say he won't have insecurities-- at his heart, Loki's a pretty anxious boy --or that he won't veer into cruelty when threatened. The problem with having a strong mind is that it tends to work overtime, and while Loki will be significantly more vulnerable with people from the jump, he'll likely shift into other coping mechanisms when he feels threatened or hurt. It's not out of the question that he might adopt similar habits to his former self, either. After all, it's pretty common for the smart kid to feel ostracized, whether that's actually happening or not. It's just that he'll be far less guarded at first, and he won't have a clear target for his anger when others see his shortcomings the way he did with his father and brother.

That said, he won't lose his charm or wit. He'll just utilize it more freely, with less calculation behind it all. With no one to prove anything to but himself, winning people over will be a reward in and of itself instead of a means to an end. At the end of the day, this will likely leave him happier, although that day will be spent discovering his own values independent of the culture he was adopted into.

Memories

You have 10 memory points. How will you use them?
Major Memory: 2 points.

Knuckles white, dangling over an abyss. No, Loki. Another rejection, even after all this. Letting go.

Relationship core: 3 points.
Loki remembers Frigga, though he doesn't remember her as his mother. He remembers the respect, the love, but quite often this is overshadowed by a crushing yet directionless guilt. He's wronged her in some awful way, but it feels abstract-- almost like he only thought about it rather than carrying whatever it was out.

Minor memories: 1 points.
Jetskis are cool. He knew someone who was really into them, but he's never ridden one himself. Actually, he isn't sure that person ever rode one either?

Minor memories: 1 points.
Practicing using a dagger as a weapon. Sometimes two at once. Sometimes he'd throw them, but he wasn't as good at that. He is significantly less good at any of it now, which is strange given just how much practice he remembers.

Relationship core: 2 points.
He remembers his connection with Sylvie. Someone just like him but who struggled even more than he did. Did he struggle, really, compared to them? They've just been through so much and come out so strong and-- and he just wants them to be okay.

Skill: 1 point.
Loki can conjure miniature fireworks in the palm of his hand. They give off no heat or force. But they're pretty! So. He's got that going for him.

Points remaining: 0
