[There's an uncomfortably long pause at that.]

[ That pause is worrying enough to speed his steps a bit, for sure. Not that he wasn't already getting them each a drink in Warden Command, but he hustles a bit to Loki's cabin with said drinks.

Whiskey, of course.

He knocks, then, by way of announcing himself before the door even opens: ]

Your actual face is far preferable to Travis's wife, anyway.

[Loki rolls his eyes and opens the door.]

Flatterer. I'm not that upset.

[He steps aside to let Lucifer in, muttering:]

Not as if I should be indulging like this to begin with.

[He's pretty sure somewhere William is suddenly annoyed and doesn't know why. Well, not annoyed than usual.]

What did you bring?

I never flatter.

[ For some definition of the term, anyway. He hands over one of the two glasses. ]

This is the finest single-malt the bar has to offer - or the closest thing to it, at any rate. You’re doing your just penance; might as well have a drink to go with it.

[Loki snorts and takes the glass. His cabin is light on furnishings, but he does have a small table and chairs for them to sit. He drops down into his own seat heavily, legs stretching out in front of him.]

I don't know that penance is what I would call it. I'm largely just feeling sorry for myself, at this point. When I'm not feeling angry at myself, instead.

[He raises his eyes to Lucifer, expression carefully neutral.]

You might annoy the others. Coming to comfort me when I've so obviously fucked up.

Oh, I already annoy the others pretty often, it's nothing I can't handle.

[ With great self-awareness comes the knowledge that not everyone is going to like you. ]

But I'm also not very good at being comforting. Mostly I'm just here to make sure you don't wallow too much. It's pointless. Take it from someone who's wasted a lot of time pointlessly wallowing.

[Loki extends the glass out, raising an eyebrow.]

So is the idea to get all the wallowing done at once by getting drunk? I've tried that in the past. It tends to go about as poorly as anything else.

The idea is to drink and distract you. What's the funniest prank you've pulled?

Loki leans back in his chair, hums thoughtfully.]

The time I turned Thor into a frog was a good one. I put him in a jar. With holes, mind you, but he didn't appreciate that kindness.

[ That definitely gets a good chuckle out of Lucifer. ]

I love that you can just do magic. Amazing. I would've turned several of my siblings into frogs at various points if I could've.

That's an oversimplification, I think. And can't you do some magic? You can fly, right?

My flying isn't magic. Birds have wings, and most of them can fly too. Nobody calls that magic.

And when you just don't have wings? What's that called?

I always have my wings. They're just put away. The only time I didn't have my wings, was when I cut them off.

[Maybe it's the drink, but the rest of that hits him on a delay.]

No, just... away. Pocket dimension? Subspace? Whatever.

[ Lucifer shrugs. It's not really a thing that has a name or an explanation, it just is. ]

And yes - well, technically my right-hand demon cut them off for me, originally, when I decided to move to Earth and quit the whole 'Lord of Hell' thing.

[Loki's eyebrows raise at that explanation.]

Was that...necessary?

Depends on what you mean by necessary. At the time, I thought it was necessary, to send a message to my Dad and my siblings. And, I suppose - I needed to cut off the reminder of what I was. Or wasn't, anymore.
